MPHA Member Spotlight: Stephanie Roberts
October 10, 2024
How long have you been an MPHA Member, and what do you find most valuable about your MPHA membership?
Since 2024. I am looking forward to developing the ways I can help to support my community. Along with gaining more partnerships to help the population of people I work with daily.
Can you share a bit about your current role(s)?
I have been working as a certified peer recovery coach at Groups Recover Together for 4.5 years. I support people in some of their darkest moments and also get to celebrate milestones along the way. Over the past year I have spent time at the City of Portland's Syringe Exchange and the Homeless Service Center. I have enjoyed building trust and relationships with people receiving services at the sites.
Tell me a little bit about your path to public health?
I'm in long term recovery from drugs and alcohol. I want to offer hope to those still struggling like I once was. I want to give back what was freely given to me when I began my recovery journey. It's important to me to stay up to date with current resources available and break down any potential barriers.
Who or what inspires you in your work?
My motivation to do this work comes from loved ones lost to the disease of addiction. Along with those still sick and suffering. If by sharing my experience, strength, and hope helps even just one person, it matters. The bigger the support the greater the outcome.
