Introducing the Healthy States Collaborative
September 12, 2025
Actions from the federal government threaten to undermine the public health infrastructure that Maine relies on to keep people safe and healthy. In response, Maine Public Health Association has launched a new initiative, the Healthy States Collaborative, which includes more than a dozen states and represents every region of the country.
Healthy States Collaborative
Strengthening America’s Health and Prosperity
Who We Are
The Healthy States Collaborative brings together more than a dozen state-based public health associations representing millions of Americans in every region of the country. We are united by a commitment to building stronger, safer, and healthier communities—because when people are healthy, businesses grow, economies thrive, and families succeed.
Our Mission
We advocate for federal and state policies that safeguard health and strengthen opportunity. Public health is not a partisan issue—it is a foundation for economic growth, national security, and the well-being of every community.
Policy Priorities
We urge policymakers at every level to preserve and strengthen investment in:
- Chronic disease prevention – lowering long-term health care costs and protecting workforce productivity.
- Rural health care workforce – ensuring that families in small towns and agricultural regions have reliable access to care.
- Local economic development – linking public health to job creation, business competitiveness, and community resilience.
- Clean air and safe drinking water – protecting resources every family depends on.
- Safe and secure food systems – ensuring confidence in the food supply that sustains our economy and our people.
Why It Matters
Strong public health systems save money, reduce risk, and create the conditions for prosperity. These are investments that deliver measurable returns in a stronger workforce, more stable local economies, and healthier communities across America.
Our Commitment
The Healthy States Collaborative stands ready to work with Congress, Governors, and State Legislatures to advance solutions that reflect shared values: accountability, innovation, and community well-being. Together, we can strengthen both the health of our people and the strength of our nation.
