Cary Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist / Specimen Processor to join our Laboratory team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting biological specimens to support laboratory procedures and assisting technologists with sample processing.

The ideal candidate will provide patient-centered, compassionate care while ensuring accuracy and professionalism in all aspects of specimen collection and handling.

** The successful candidate must have a current Phlebotomy Certification**

  • Consistently obtains optimal quality specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
  • Responds promptly to computer orders and telephone requests.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and answers questions appropriately.
  • Orders the correct tests as indicated on the Medical Provider’s requisition.
  • Responds promptly to STAT and URGENT requests.
  • Completes draw with one needle stick to obtain sufficient quantity of specimen greater than 95% of the time.
  • Collects specimens other than blood samples, such as nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs, for testing.

Requirements

  • Phlebotomy Certification required
  • CPR and basic first aid recommended
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED preferred

Schedule:

  • Day Shift: 4- 9 hour days as assigned by department manager.
  • With consideration to our patients’ and staff needs, you may need to work on days, evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays and may need to float to other units.
