Healthy Acadia, a non-profit community health coalition providing health and wellness services primarily in Washington and Hancock Counties and across Maine, seeks a full-time Community Health Navigator to support Hancock County at the INSPIRE Community Recovery Center in Ellsworth. The focus of this position is directly serving individuals impacted by substance use disorder, mental health challenges, and other life stressors while strengthening systems of care and recovery support. This position reports to the Community Health and Supports Manager.

Responsibilities:

The Community Health Navigator plays a key role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and recovery-centered environment at the recovery center. This peer-based position is dedicated to actively engaging with guests, providing one-on-one support, and connecting individuals to essential resources that promote safety, health, and long-term stability.

Support of Community Members:

• Provide compassionate, peer-based support to individuals accessing the recovery center
• Assist guests in navigating local and state resources, including applications for MaineCare, SNAP/EBT, SSI/SSDI, General Assistance, housing, healthcare, education, and employment
• Offer individualized assistance with paperwork and help connect guests to external providers and community services
• Provide peer support daily
• Encourage guest participation in scheduled programming, groups, and daily wellness activities
• Help facilitate and organize programs that promote recovery, connection, and personal growth
• Assist with referrals to recovery coaching and support reentry planning for individuals returning from incarceration
• Collaborate with center staff to ensure guest needs are met, and service connections are successfully made

Recovery Center Support:

• Actively engage with guests throughout the day to promote a recovery-supportive environment
• Plan, coordinate, and lead structured daily programming, activities, and special events during both regular operating hours and after-hours programming
• Support a team approach by working closely with staff to identify opportunities for engagement and improvement
• Provide direct service to guests during regular hours (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 5 days/week)
• Respond to phone calls and provide information or resource referrals as needed
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and inclusive environment for all center visitors

Organizational Responsibilities:

• Develop familiarity with center and Healthy Acadia policies, procedures, and available community resources
• Participate in required staff trainings, learning opportunities, and development sessions
• Attend team meetings and contribute to ongoing program planning, evaluation, and growth
• Participate in and represent Healthy Acadia and INSPIRE at community events, partner meetings, and other activities as needed
• Complete all required reporting, record keeping, and administrative requests in a timely manner

Qualifications and Experience:

• Lived experience with recovery and/or a strong understanding of recovery pathways
• Familiarity with local healthcare systems, social services, and community-based supports preferred
• Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills—listening, speaking, and writing clearly and effectively
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and prioritize work in a dynamic setting
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently in both center-based and community-facing roles
• Warm, approachable, and culturally responsive in interactions with diverse individuals and partner agencies
• Team-oriented mindset with the ability to contribute positively to a collaborative work environment
• Sound judgment when managing sensitive issues, competing priorities, or diverse community needs

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, position with strong benefits. Salary range: $43,680 -

$46,345/year. The position is based at Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Community Recovery Center in Ellsworth. Occasional travel throughout Hancock and Washington counties.
