Community Health Coordinator – Hancock County

Healthy Acadia, a non-profit community health coalition serving Maine’s Hancock and Washington counties, seeks an experienced community professional to join a dynamic team passionate about making it easier for all people to lead healthier lives. Reporting to the Substance and Tobacco Prevention Manager, the Community Health Coordinator fosters collaborative partnerships and delivers health promotion programs that prevent tobacco use, substance misuse, and addiction through the Maine Prevention Network. The right individual must be highly motivated, be a facilitative leader, have excellent communication, mobilization, and community relations skills. Familiarity with local communities is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly engage youth, including delivering youth tobacco/nicotine treatment in schools and implementing youth activities.
  • Conduct outreach, education, and promotion of tobacco and substance use prevention resources and opportunities with schools and other youth-serving organizations, municipalities, social service agencies, health care providers, policy makers, and others.
  • Deliver evidence-informed substance prevention activities, including prevention education and awareness campaigns, to schools and communities.
  • Promote policy, systems, and environmental strategies to reduce access to alcohol, cannabis, prescription drugs, tobacco/nicotine, and other emerging substances.
  • Participate and collaborate in community groups, committees, and coalition meetings, particularly those serving vulnerable populations, such as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and low-income individuals.
  • Complete Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training and work towards Prevention Specialist Certification if not already certified.
  • Perform regular monthly program monitoring and evaluation reports.
  • Staff community tabling events as needed.
  • This position is based in our Ellsworth office, with remote work possibilities.

Qualifications and Experience Sought:

  • Experience with evidence-based public health policy & environmental strategies for community change, particularly in the areas of substance & tobacco prevention.
  • Experience working with youth, particularly in an educator or mentor role.
  • Highly self-motivated, ability to work independently from office or community.
  • Ability to set and keep deadlines, and to develop and follow own work plan.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and to prioritize work.
  • Warm, personable, and approachable. Ability to work with diverse people, and to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with diverse partner organizations.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to listen well, speak and write effectively.
  • Strong computer literacy required, including knowledge of MS Office products and Google Workspace; presentation and graphic design experience is a plus.
  • Ability to manage and disseminate information effectively.
  • Team player with high professional standards, positive attitude and flexibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience delivering related community-based or public health programs or services.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with competitive salary, benefits, and opportunity for growth. Salary range: $41,000-47,000. Vehicle & regular travel throughout Hancock County required; some statewide travel and occasional weekend and/or evening meetings expected.
