Future MPHA Board Member & Officers sought- deadline approaching MPHA is seeking nominations for future leaders of our association. Board member and Officer nominations can be submitted to Past President Emily Rines now through Friday, July 16th 2010. Terms for at-large Board members are two years and Officer positions are one year. MPHA has a commitment to creating a Board that is field, geographic and focus-diverse in order to truly be the voice of public health in Maine. You need not be a current member of MPHA to nominate a potential Board member or Officer but we hope to have wide participation by our members during this nomination process!
A committee of the Board will follow-up on these nominations and present a slate of nominees and officers to be voted on at the business meeting portion of the MPHA fall conference on October 5th.
Food Safety Modernization Act Though the State legislative session is over, MPHA continues to work for you and for the public health of all Mainers. We are actively promoting the passage of S. 510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. One of a variety of efforts to engage Senator’s Collins and Snowe, was an Op-Ed featured by the Portland Press Herald on June 23rd by Executive Director Tina Pettingill – check it out! We are still looking for LTE’s to be submitted throughout the State to support this initiative as well – please let us know if you are willing to send one in (we will help you draft it- you do not have to be an expert!).
Keeping up with MPHA Hopefully you’re already keeping up with us on Facebook- now you can follow your public health association on Twitter as well!
Is October 5th on your calendar? MPHA’s fall conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5th from 8:30-4pm at the Augusta Civic Center. The conference promises to once again be the premier public health event in Maine! We have recruited some incredible main room speakers and attendees will have 15 amazing breakout presentations to choose from throughout the day (our committee had over 40 abstracts competing for these spots!). Look for registration information within the next month.
