Save The Date for our 26th Annual Meeting We are pleased to announce the date of our fall conference. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 5th from 8:30-4pm at the Augusta Civic Center. The conference promises to once again be the premier public health event in Maine! We have recruited some incredible main room speakers and attendees will have 15 amazing breakout presentations to choose from throughout the day (there were over 40 abstracts competing for these spots!). Look for registration information within the next month.
Awards/Nominating Committee Every summer a committee is gathered to determine the slate of nominees for the MPHA Board of Directors as well as solicit and decide the winners for our annual recognition awards. This is a short-term (meeting July through September) but extremely important committee as it is establishing the future capacity and leadership of the Maine Public Health Association. If you are interested in serving on this committee, or have a Board nominee you’d like to submit, please contact Past President Emily Rines directly.
Jobs, jobs and more jobs! If you’re looking for a new opportunity in public health, look no further than the MPHA website! There are currently 11 positions posted with more being added daily. If you have a position to post, please email us at mainepha@gmail.com
The session may be over but the work has just begun... We would like to thank the many participants of MPHA’s policy committee this year. It was admittedly a tough year for public health measures at the state house but a productive year on a federal level. MPHA participated in many ways on several federal initiatives with our partners at APHA and others including advocacy work on the Food Safety Modernization Act, The Healthy, Hungry-Free Kids Act, The Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, Safe Chemical Act and Health Reform.
We will continue to work on a federal level throughout the summer as issues arise and are also open to accepting public health issues that you would like to see made into law. Remember, the policy committee is here is serve our members' interests, so feel free to email policy chair Bethany Sanborn anytime with ideas or if you would like to be on the committee as it ramps up again in the fall.
