MPHA moves into our 26th year!
Upcoming Events
Portraits of the Past, Vision of the Future – MPHA’s 25th anniversary annual meeting is coming up on October 13. We are extremely proud to offer a meeting filled with a nationally known speaker, a newly added H1N1 special town hall meeting session, and a wide variety of breakout sessions on topics guaranteed to pique your interest. And don’t forget to sign up for our free 25th anniversary reception which will take place immediately after the conference- there are several special activities planned! Space is limited and spots are filling up quickly. Please visit: www.mainepublichealth.org to register online or via printable brochure today.
From the Program Committee… To celebrate MPHA's 25th anniversary, this year's Annual Meeting will feature a photo exhibit chronicling the history of public health in Maine. If you have access to photos that illustrate the past (not necessarily just the past 25 years), please email Toho Soma. Also, if your organization has framed photos to loan for the day, please let Toho know. Thank you for your assistance.
Calendar reminder: go to our online calendar to see other great in-state and national events!
MPHA Policy Committee work
The Policy Committee is gearing up for several initiatives and are asking for member input.
• On the table for discussion at our next meeting is exploring taking a position on several legislative initiatives that are relevant to public health. These are: Tax Payers Bill of Rights II (TABOR), Maine Auto Excise Tax Repeal (Question 2) and the Marriage Equality Repeal (Question 1). If you have comments on any of these items, please our policy chair, Shawn Yardley.
• Last year we sent out a public health information packet to all new legislators and all H&HS committee members. This was a successful endeavor and the committee is interested in doing this again—is you available to participate on this time-limited subcommittee? If so, please contact Tina Pettingill.
• What do you think the Policy Committee should be considering? Our members determine our agenda—please contact Shawn if you’d like to contribute ideas, time or input.
This Is Public Health- make sure your district is represented!
Our TIPH campaign continues and will be featured via slide show at the Portraits of the Past, Visions of the Future meeting on October 13. We can still accept pictures that depict public health in your region until September 25th. Think outside of the box of all the ways public health workers and work impact your community- from garbage collectors, to flu vaccine clinics to educational sessions! You can place the TIPH sticker in your photo, but that is not a requirement for submission. Please send photos to our technology expert, Scott Caparelli via e-mail!
