H1N1 Vaccine Safety Specialist

Medical Care Development, Inc., a not-for-profit health services organization, in collaboration with the Maine Center for Disease Control (ME CDC) is seeking a highly qualified public health professional to assist with addressing H1N1 in Maine.  The successful candidate will be energetic, flexible, and detail-oriented with a conscientious work style and project management skills.  A Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (public health, psychology, education, social sciences) with 1-2 years experience is preferred.

This nine-month position will assist in managing projects aimed at increasing compliance with federal CDC's recommendations and promoting the use of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

  • Network with vaccine providers and other medical, nursing, and pharmacy professionals.
  • Design educational material aimed at promoting the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System to providers.
  • Collect data from the federal CDC VAERS database and draft reports.
  • Research and follow-up individual adverse event reports.
  • Assist Maine Immunization Program, Maine CDC in other duties as needed.

Health Educator - Library/Performance Improvement

The Health Educator coordinates outreach programs for the community on a variety of health and wellness topics, including needs assessment, program arrangements, evaluation, and data compilation.  A Bachelor's degree in Health Education or comparable is required.

The position is for 20 hours/week on a flexible schedule.  Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.  The Health Educator will also be expected to provide some coverage for the consumer health library.  Only positive attitudes need apply.

Health Program Manager - Maine CDC

The Maine CDC/DHHS Division of Chronic Disease is seeking a Health Program Manager for the Asthma Prevention and Control Program in Augusta, Maine.

As Health Program Manager for the Asthma Prevention and Control Program, you will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.  You will provide leadership to develop program goals and objectives, monitor program progress, administer grants, collaborae with internal and external partners, and oversee the work of program personnel.  Responsibilities include providing overall direction for planning, implementing, and evaluating statewide program efforts and developing and monitoring contracts and budgets.  Experience maintaining effective partnerships is essential as well as knowledge of public health practices related to asthma prevention and control and public health planning, implementation, and evaluation techniques.

A Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Health Sciences, Health Education, one of the Behavioral Sciences, Public Administration, Education, or related fields - AND - three (3) years experience in health program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation - OR - an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience.  A Masters degree in Public Health or related field is desirable.

Director, Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is driven by its vision of Maine people living safe, healthy and productive lives.  Its goal is to assist the people of Maine in meeting their own needs, as well as the developmental, health and safety needs of their children.  It serves the public in an environment that reflects a caring, responsive and well-managed organization.  The Maine Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (OPHEP) is the lead state agency responsible for the planning, coordination, and response to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies.

This position will provide programmatic oversight to public health preparedness and response activities for the Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness in the Maine CDC, Division of Public Health Systems.  Responsibilities include serving as a public health liaison to other states, regional and federal agencies, local communities, and health care systems; to strengthen the ability of health agencies and partner organizations to detect, contain and manage public health threats and emergencies.  Priorities include project design, planning, implementation and programmatic capacity building across the Maine CDC, and coordination with multiple partners in Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services and Healthcare.

In order to qualify, you must have a ten (10) year combination of education, training and experience comprised of a Masters Degree in Public Health, Health Care Administration, or a related field; and four years experience in public health and emergency preparedness to include a minimum of two years of related administrative and managerial experience.  Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Candidates must have knowledge or prior experience in public health preparedness and public health planning, program development, and coordination.

Program Coordinator - Healthy Casco Bay HMP

The City of Portland, Health and Human Services - Public Health - is seeking a qualified individual to coordinate the Healthy Maine Partnership Program in the Casco Bay Region (ten towns north of Portland).  This grant-funded program utilizes policy and environmental change strategies to improve health, speficially in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and tobacco.  Responsibilities include coalition building, program development, coordination and implementation, grants management, staff supervision, evaluation, and working with community members and organizational partners to achieve grant deliverables.  Requires a Bachelor's degree in a public health related field; Master's degree preferred.  Experience in community-based program development, implementation of grant-funded programs and evaluation required.  Experience with supervising staff, policy and environmental change strategies and tobacco, physical activity and nutrition programming strongly desired.  Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively including good group process, facilitation, negotiation and presentation skills.

Maine CDC Nutrition Coordinator

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention develops and delivers services to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine.  The Physical Activity, Nutrition and Healthy Weight Program (PAN-HW) has a current vacancy for a Nutrition Coordinator in Augusta.  The PAN-HW program is an integral part of the dedicated and committed team working to make Maine the healthiest state in the nation.  This program is a key component of Maine's unique Healthy Maine Partnership initiative, which funds local community interventions throughout the state to address tobacco, physical activity, nutrition, obesity prevention and control and other chronic diseases.

The Comprehensive Health Planner II (CHP II) Nutrition Coordinator for the PAN-HW Program is responsible for the research and inclusion of current and evidence-based material and interventions to be used in program development and implementation and in assisting local communities, community partnerships, and coalitions to plan, implement, and evaluate population-based health promotion efforts in the program areas of Nutrition, Obesity, and Chronic Disease prevention.  This position maintains and disseminates up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices of Nutrition and Weight Management.  The CHP II works independently under the direction of the PAN-HW Program Manager to develop Nutrition and Healthy Weight-focused health promotion activities and program materials in accordance with Federal guidelines for PAN-HW program planning and implementation.

In order to qualify, you must have an eight (8) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in planning, program development, and coordination in the public health field or related fields.  A Masters in Public Health, Nutrition Sciences or related field is desirable.

Public Health Epidemiologist - Rhode Island Dept. of Health

The Rhode Island Department of Health, Asthma Control Program is seeking a Public Health Epidemiologist for their Providence location.  This position will be responsible for all evaluation of the Rhode Island Asthma Control Program, including overall Program outcomes, related and collaborative projects in Environmental Health, and key program interventions, and to do related work as required.

Comprehensive Health Planner II - ME Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness

The Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (OPHEP), within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, is the lead state agency responsible for the planning, coordination, and response to bioterrorism and other public health emergencies.

OPHEP is seeking a Comprehensive Health Planner II.  In this position you will provide professional services work to public health preparedness and response statewide including healthcare systems preparedness projects to assure Maine meets federal requirements; included will be monitoring and reporting on progress and variances.  Critical functions include management of multiple public health emergency preparedness and response projects including the management of systems for the deployment and operational management of emergency volunteer workforce and establishments of operational systems to swiftly and effectively establish and utilize Medical Reserve Corps statewide in compliance with US DHHS standards.  Coordination with Federal priorities specific to healthcare systems preparedness across the nation are defined as a required component of the ongoing public health preparedness cooperative agreements.  The successful candidate will develop and maintain relationships with all public health emergency preparedness and response stakeholders, and should be comfortable working in a team approach.
