Public Health Specialist, Prevention Center, MaineGeneral Medical Center

The Public Health Specialist completes assessment, planning, program evaluation and reporting activities for the priority public health initiatives within the region.  Oversee MGMC and grant funded public health projects within Kennebec and Somerset County working with MGMC Prevention center staff.  Works with the Prevention Center Director to coordinate project activities with the assistance of Health Educators and Project Associates.  Current assigned responsibilities are the MGMC Hypertension Initiative, Childhood Immunization program, and evaluation coordinator for Move More Project. 

MPH preferred.  Bachelor's degree, with 5 or more years experience or BS with Graduate Certificate in Public Health and 3 or more eyars experience

Executive Director, Healthy Androscoggin

Healthy Androscoggin is seeking an Executive Director.  This is a full-time, 40 hrs/week position with variable hours.  The general function and responsibility of this full-time professional position is to direct and manage programmatic and administrative functions for Healthy Androscoggin, under the auspices of Central Maine Community Health, (a 501(c)3 corporation of Central Maine Medical Family). The Executive Director oversees and manages the provision of new and expanded comprehensive community based health efforts, funded through various local, state, and federal grant sources. These services will seek to improve the health of Androscoggin County citizens through a comprehensive community-based approach. The Executive is directly supervised by the Healthy Androscoggin Board of Directors. Requirements: A Master's degree in Public Health is preferred. Minimum of 7 years' experience required in prevention planning, staff supervision, project management, interagency collaborative programming, budgeting and financial stewardship, media and provider relations, networking, public outreach, and/or community organizing. Exceptional technical writing and communications skills, ability to work with diverse groups and solid knowledge of data collection and programmatic evaluation preferred. Sustainable Systems Program Manager

Partnership for Healthy Aging is seek a Sustainable Systems Program Manager to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate Maine's efforts throughout the state to expand access and significantly enhance sustainability of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) for older adults; coordinate continuous quality improvement activities; serve as primary contact for Sustainable System grant related activities.  Minimum of Master's Degree in Nursing, gerontology, education, related field or equivalent experience.  Experience with outcome measurement and quality improvement processes; grants management; public policy development, system integration; excellent oral and written communication skills; computer skills required.  Position is located at least two days per week at the Office of Elder Services in Augusta.  Position requires employee to travel to various locations throughout the state to interact with older adults and wellness program providers.  Applications may be sent to pfha@mmc.org.

Assistant Researcher - REACH-US Grant

Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Health Policy is seeking an Assistant Reseracher for the REACH-US Grant - Communities IMPACT Diabetes Center.  The Communities IMPACT Diabetes Center is funded by the CDC's REACH-US grant to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities among African Americans and Latinos with or at risk for diabetes in East Harlem and throughout New York State, using community-based participatory approaches.  This is a unique opportunity to conduct novel activities to better understand what is needed to eliminate disparities in diabetes, develop community-led interventions that build on local assets, and transform communities in sustainable ways that lead to better health and increased community capacity.  The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting with developing and maintaining working relationships with various community organizations, partners and residents; conducting environmental assessments and administering surveys in the community; coordinating and scheduling community meetings and providing support with other project-related tasks as needed.  Baccalaureate degree required.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills and basic computer proficiency with capacity to conduct research-related internet searches required.  The Assistant Researcher must be detail-oriented, able to manage multiple taks and should have experience and/or a strong interest in public health, health policy and community-based participatory research.  Bilingual English/Spanish is required.

Education Specialist I (SPF Prevention Specialist)

Physician Assistant

The Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has a vacancy for a Physician Assistant.  As the Physician Assistant in the Infectious Disease Division, you will serve as a member of the Medical Epidemiology Team and provide support to the State Epidemiologist.  You will provide consultation to the Infectious Disease (ID) epidemiologists on clinical issues that arise in the investigation of disease reports and outbreaks and in the implementation of disease control measures.  You will provide guidance and support to the ID epidemiologists in decision making around disease investigation and control in situations that involve severe disease or large outbreaks.  You will provide quality assurance for Program protocols and activities.  You wll consult with physicians and other health care professionals on disease prevention and control measures and serve as the primary subject matter expert for vector borne diseases, hepatitis B, hospital infections and blood borne pathogens exposure issues and vaccine-preventable diseases as well as enteric and respiratory disease control issues as necessary.  You will be a liaison on science and clinically-related issues with the Health and Environmental Testing Lab, provide oversight of arboviral surveillance issues and assist in the development of responses to legislative concerns related to various infectious disease issues.  Minimum Requirements:  Two (2) years experiences as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant.  Must be licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the Maine State Board of Nursing - OR - as a Physician's Assistant by the Maine State Board of Registration of Physicians.  Licensure must include authority to prescribe medicine.  Salary Range:  Range 31 - $46,342.40 - $63,772.80/year.  To apply:  Please send a completed direct hire application (found at http://www.maine.gov/bhr/state_jobs/how_to/direct.htm) and resume to:  Department of Health and Human Services, Attn:  V. HelpLine and Outreach Associate

Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC), a non-profit advocacy organization committed to helping all Maine people obtain affordable, quality health care, is seeking a HelpLine and Outreach Associate. This professional position, working under the direct supervision of the Director of Programs and Policy and closely with the organization’s other program staff, would be responsible for providing information to people seeking assistance in obtaining access to health care and coverage in Maine through outreach activities and CAHC’s statewide, toll-free HelpLine. The position also involves community education services to consumers and groups about public and private health care coverage options.

Responsibilities include:

• Answering in-coming calls to our statewide, toll-free HelpLine
• Providing accurate information and assistance to the public regarding health care programs. This includes aid in screening for potential eligibility for assistance programs, program navigation, mediation, and more.
• Conducting targeted outreach activities
• Conducting informational activities, such as table displays, and brief presentations
• Preparation of easy to read materials for public circulation
• Representing CAHC and consumer interests at various meetings and public functions
• Generation of timely activity reports according to the project work plan
• Participation in media events

Requirements:

Candidates must be highly organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills. This position requires the ability to articulate information to other professionals and laypeople, as well as the ability to complete multiple assignments under tight time constraints. Candidates must be proactive, self-starters, who are highly motivated and able to work well alone and in a team setting. Candidates must have a commitment to social and economic justice in Maine. Proven customer service and public speaking skills are a plus. Working knowledge of word processing, and spreadsheet programs (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel) is required. Working knowledge of database and presentation programs is a plus. An understanding of public (especially Medicaid) and private health insurance programs and experience working with diverse constituencies is a plus. Some statewide travel is required. Occasional evening and weekend availability may be required.
