Southern Maine Agency and Aging and York Hospital have teamed up to offer this free class. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized workshop designed to help adults 60 and older manage falls and increase activity levels. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance. Caregivers are invited to attend.
A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized program designed to reduce the fear of falling and encourage physical activity. The workshop is conducted over eight sessions, meeting weekly for two hours per session. Meetings will be held by trained volunteer leaders. Participants will learn to: view falling as something you can control, set goals and increase your activity level, make changes around the home to reduce fall risks, exercise to increase strength and balance, and become a proactive self-manager in reducing your own risk for falls.
