Community Screening Event: Resilience @ University of New England, Alumni Hall

Join the University of New England and the Junior League of Portland April 19, 2018 for the screening of Resilience: The Biology of Stress & Science of Hope. The film follows pioneering individuals who looked at the ACEs research and the emerging science of Toxic Stress and asked, ‘Why are we waiting?’ Each took this new information and used it in new ways.

A Matter of Balance @ Kittery Community Center

Southern Maine Agency and Aging and York Hospital have teamed up to offer this free class.  Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities.  A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized workshop designed to help adults 60 and older manage falls and increase activity levels.  You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance.  Caregivers  are invited to attend.

Maine Cancer Foundation’s Challenge Cancer Conference @ Hilton Garden Inn

Maine Cancer Foundation and Maine’s Impact Cancer Network invite you to join colleagues across the state for the 2018 Challenge Cancer Conference.

At this year’s conference we will:

  • Learn how to apply promising practices in cancer prevention,
    early detection, and patient outcomes to your own work and communities;
  • Have a better understanding of cancer data in Maine;
  • Hear from others working in the cancer community about their work; and
  • Have opportunities to network with old friends and make new connections.
A Matter of Balance @ Cape Elizabeth Community Center

A Matter of Balance is a nationally recognized program designed to reduce the fear of falling and encourage physical activity. The workshop is conducted over eight sessions, meeting weekly for two hours per session. Meetings will be held by trained volunteer leaders. Participants will learn to: view falling as something you can control, set goals and increase your activity level, make changes around the home to reduce fall risks, exercise to increase strength and balance, and become a proactive self-manager in reducing your own risk for falls.
