ABOUT US
Founded in 1984, the Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) is a member based non-profit organization. We currently have over 250 members from all sectors of public health. An incorporated 501(c)3, MPHA is governed by a 15 member Board of Directors. Our Board is elected each year by our full membership and is driven by our mission and bylaws as well as our policy and procedure manual. MPHA has deep and vast support from many organizations throughout Maine. One of these organizations, Medical Care Development in Augusta, serves as our fiscal agent.
In October 2007, MPHA received a $90,000 Affiliates grant from the American Public Health Association (APHA). This is a three-year grant that charges MPHA with building our internal capacity as well as our ability to serve our members and better the publics’ health in Maine. This grant afforded MPHA the opportunity to hire our first Executive Director, Tina Pettingill, MPH, in January, 2008.
MPHA has spent the past two year in an exciting period of growth and development and are now turning our focus and energies on sustainability of the organization in 2010. We will be holding a sustainability retreat in February 2010 and will be writing several key marketing and business documents to help us in this process toward longevity. If you are reading this and wish to become involved please contact us- we welcome all input and feedback!
We invite you to join us in our commitment to our members and to public health in Maine!
